For the uninitiated, the game can seem overwhelmingly complicated...what are all those funny looking tiles and their unfamiliar Chinese characters...not to mention the winning hands card with all of those different coloured numbers and letters, that changes every year just as you're getting the hang of it?!?

Here's the good news: within a few short hours, I will demystify this surprisingly straightforward game and have you and your friends ready to play some proper rounds of American Mah Jongg.

I will cover all the basics, including:​
-brief background of the game
-introduction of the tiles
-deciphering the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card (THE standard for the game)
-shuffling and dealing
-choosing your winning hand (the hardest bit)
-the Charleston
-game play and basic strategies
-achieving your first Mah Jongg or "Mahjj"

For beginners, figuring out what hand to go for is always the biggest hurdle...but once it "clicks", you'll see it's really just color-by-numbers...and with a little luck, you'll be Mahjj-ing in no time!

I recommend a couple half-day sessions (3-4 hours each) for up to 4 people in the comfort of your own home. I'll supply everything needed to learn the game - the table, the set and cards - as well as some teaching materials for you to keep.
